Sojitz Launches Japan’s First Shared Ownership Service for International Business Jets

*Sojitz has launched Japan’s first shared ownership service for international business jets, the “Share Jet Program | SJP” (hereinafter referred to as “SJP”).*¹

The Share Jet Program (SJP) is a new service that enables multiple individuals and/or companies to jointly purchase and own newly manufactured, state-of-the-art large business jets as shared assets.

For more than 20 years, Sojitz has been committed to expanding Japan’s business jet market. To date, ownership options for large, trans-Pacific-capable business jets in the domestic market have been limited to full ownership of a single aircraft. As a result, many customers have expressed concerns such as wanting to own an aircraft as a depreciable asset while finding the acquisition and fixed costs of full ownership too high, or not requiring frequent use but still wishing to have assured access when needed.

At the same time, the introduction of shared ownership services has long been considered to require robust infrastructure and operational frameworks, including flexible operations that ensure the highest levels of safety, as well as the availability of backup aircraft to accommodate situations where usage requests from fractional owners overlap.

Sojitz has within its group Phenix Jet, an international business jet operator that has received the highest safety ratings from multiple third-party organizations. Operating from its dedicated hangar at Narita Airport, the group manages and operates a large number of business jets in Japan with a high degree of flexibility. Backed by this solid operational and maintenance foundation, Sojitz has established a high-quality and highly reliable service framework for shared ownership—an offering previously considered difficult to introduce domestically—culminating in the launch of Japan’s first Share Jet Program (SJP).

【Key Features of the Share Jet Program (SJP)】

Under the Share Jet Program (SJP), one aircraft is jointly owned by two to six individuals or entities, depending on usage frequency and budget. Fixed costs are paid on a monthly, subscription-style basis, proportionate to each owner’s share of ownership.

*The ownership plans offer four options with annual usage allocations of 50, 75, 100, or 150 days. These plans are available to both corporate and individual owners, and depreciation is applicable.*²

Information relating to each fractional owner is kept strictly confidential, with anonymity carefully and rigorously maintained among all participants.

*Aircraft eligible for the Share Jet Program (SJP) are the following two newly manufactured models produced by Bombardier.*³ These aircraft feature exclusive SJP specifications, designed without compromise based on Sojitz’s long-standing sales and operational management expertise, as well as the specific needs of customers in the Japanese market.

Global 8000:

A flagship aircraft boasting the longest range in the industry, capable of nonstop flights to North America and Europe. The cabin is standard-equipped with a private suite and a fixed bed for ultimate comfort.

Global 6500:

A well-balanced successor to a best-selling model, capable of nonstop flights to Hawaii and the U.S. West Coast. The cabin features a private enclosed space for enhanced comfort and privacy.

If a preferred travel date has already been reserved by another fractional owner, a backup aircraft of the same model will be provided at no additional cost. Should a higher-category aircraft be requested, it will be made available at a preferential rate.

In addition, flight bookings, schedule adjustments, and cost confirmations can all be completed through a dedicated app. By eliminating complicated email exchanges, the service ensures a smooth and seamless user experience at any time.

The Share Jet Program (SJP) delivers operational quality equivalent to full aircraft ownership, while offering superior cost efficiency and a level of flexibility not available through charter services. A new business jet ownership model has been created for clients who refuse to compromise on time, cost, or quality.

・SJP was featured in the Nikkei (Nihon Keizai Shimbun) online edition on July 6, 2025, and in the print morning edition on July 7, 2025(see article here)。
